AGORA is een Nederlands-Vlaams, populair-wetenschappelijk magazine dat zich bezighoudt met sociaal-ruimtelijke vraagstukken.

Focus and Scope

AGORA is een populair-wetenschappelijk magazine dat zich bezighoudt met actuele sociaalruimtelijke vraagstukken. AGORA is een Nederlands-Vlaams magazine met zowel abonnees als redacteurs aan beide zijden van de grens.
De ambitie van AGORA is onderbelichte en actuele sociaalruimtelijke thema’s op een kritische en leesbare manier over het voetlicht te brengen.  AGORA streeft ernaar deze thema’s te agenderen, een eigenzinnige visie te formuleren en ze in een breder kader plaatsen. AGORA slaat hiermee de brug tussen studenten en gevorderde wetenschappers, tussen wetenschap en praktijk en tussen Nederland en Vlaanderen.  AGORA is hierdoor niet specifiek beleidsgericht, maar wel beleidsrelevant!
In ieder nummer staat een thema centraal.  De thema’s Sport, Nachtleven, Geo-onderwijs, Fietsen, de Post-Socialistische Stad en On/welkom zijn enkele voorbeelden van de afgelopen jaren. Naast de thema-artikelen is er een uitgebreid variagedeelte. Hierin is ruimte voor ingezonden artikelen en voor recensies over boeken en scripties. Iedere AGORA besluit met een column waarin een prominent figuur uit de ruimtelijke sector de ‘vrije ruimte’ krijgt zijn visie, onvrede of verbazing mag uiten.
Het magazine komt ongeveer 6 maanden na publicatie ook integraal online beschikbaar. Daarom maakt AGORA gebruik van de Creative Commons licentie (CC BY-NC-ND). Auteurs die publiceren in AGORA stemmen automatisch in met de digitale publicatie van hun werk.
De redactie bestaat voornamelijk uit planologen, sociaal-geografen, stadssociologen en stedenbouwkundigen in het begin van hun carrière, die actief zijn in de beleidspraktijk of op een universiteit.

Geschiedenis
AGORA is in 1984 begonnen als een initiatief van een aantal afgestudeerde sociaal geografen en planologen, die vanuit de Stichting voor Ruimtelijk Advies Beleid en Onderzoek (Strabo) op vrijwillige basis het blad maakten. De redactie was grotendeel verbonden aan SISWO, Instituut voor Maatschappijwetenschappen aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Sinds 2000 staan we op eigen benen en wordt AGORA uitgegeven – zonder winstoogmerk – door Stichting Tijdschrift AGORA gevestigd te Utrecht.

Oplage
AGORA verschijnt vier maal per jaar in een oplage van ongeveer 700 exemplaren.

Vormgeving
Sinds nummer 1 van 2008 verschijnt AGORA in haar huidige stijl, ontworpen door Maarten Mieras en Jeroen Sikma (freelance professionele vormgevers). 

Druk
De druk van AGORA wordt verzorgd door AD Mercurius in Almere.

Lezerspubliek
AGORA heeft een gevarieerd lezerspubliek, om en nabij evenredig verdeeld naar studenten, particulieren en instituten. Verder levert AGORA nummers aan verschillende universiteiten in de vorm van bulkabonnementen.

Publication Fees

If this paper is accepted for publication, you will be asked to pay an Article Publication Fee to cover publications costs.
