In the past different publishing houses in Flanders presented their series of
classics of Flemish literature. These series were never completed mostly due
to financial (or editorial) problems. Today there exist new series of classical or
would-be classical works. In this article we discuss the quality of the current
editions of Flemish literature presented in series in the twentieth century.
Case-studies, based on comparative investigation of (non)authorised texts,
will show how these series are constituted. At the same time this article contains
a vademecum for new series based on scholarly examination of texts.
